Update on 2016 Resolutions

Since there are only a few months left in 2016, I thought I would review where I am at with my New Year’s resolutions. Personally, I love making New Year’s resolutions. It helps motivate me and I have clear goals for the entire year. I started off 2016 with a newborn. Sophia was a New year’s Eve baby. So, I wasn’t quite as focused on achieving my resolutions because of how busy life got.

December 31, 2016, waiting on Miss Sophia

My resolutions were:

1.       Get back to my pre-pregnancy weight by December

2.       Pay off two credit cards

3.       Learn how to cook

I have almost achieved my goal weight and it’s only the beginning of September. I’m really excited about that. My pre-pregnancy weight was around 145lbs. I was 215lbs the day I went into labor. I had a serious craving for chocolate milk while pregnant! I haven’t really worked on losing the weight. It has just gradually started to come off. I am about 13 pounds away from my goal. I’m going to start meal prepping to improve my diet, work on upper body strength, and lots of cardio. I’m pretty confident that I will meet my goal by the end of the year.

Paying off two credit cards was a huge goal for this year. I hate being in debt! A couple days ago I was able to pay off our Chase Freedom card. It made me feel so good to get rid of that monthly payment. I am only $250 away from paying off the next one. In December, when I give an update on my resolutions, I hope I can let you all know that this momma stuck to her financial goal.

My third resolution is important to me because I would love to be able to make my daughter home cooked meals when she gets older. I know how to cook a few things like French toast, omelets, and chicken fried rice. I’m just not a very good cook! When my husband and I first moved in together, I fixed chicken fried rice almost every night for six months. He just told me recently that he hates my fried rice! I’m going to just blame it on that fact that it was all we ever ate. I do make restaurant quality French toast, though. I haven’t mastered any recipes so far this year. I’m hoping that changes by the end of the year.

What were your resolutions for 2016? Did you stick to them?

  1. Well done, mama!
When I was first married, I knew NOTHING about cooking! Because of that, my husband and I ate out far too much, which I regret, but there wasn’t much I could do since I didn’t know how to make anything. 😛 It took many years for me to end up with as many meals as I have now in my recipe book (I use a photo album with index cards). I wish my mom had taught me how to cook, and I am working at teaching my kids (ALL of them, not just the girls) so they won’t be lost when living on their own.
Oh, and I just started being on Twitter a few days ago – I found and followed you! 🙂

    • We used to eat out all the time too. My husband knows how to cook, but he never wants to :/ I just ordered a slow cooker recipe book from Amazon that’s full of healthy recipes. So, we will see how that works out!
That’s great! I love Twitter! I was hesitant at first, but it’s my favorite social media platform.
